Defiants 4×4 Trucks – Playtime is on!

I had been expecting them for days.  I rushed to the window every time I heard the sound of any type of delivery van drive by. I was that obnoxious person peaking out the shades every 20 minutes to see if my package had arrived.  Finally, my impatience paid off.  It arrived with great fanfare.  Two enormous boxes were dropped off at my front door.  They had arrived.

With two boys hovering closely, we opened the boxes and I began to hear the first of many “cools” and “awesomes” being whispered in disbelief. Rough and Tough trucks that came with their own tracks?! It was more than they could hardly stand.

We unpacked the boxes and began to set up the tracks for the race of a lifetime. However as my husband and I began to notice, these tracks do not really need an adult to put it together. My six year old had taken control and was creating his own path for the trucks. We stood back and watched his imagination take control.

By the end of the build he constructed a track that provided for hours of entertainment including a monster truck rally, race to the “dinosaur dig” and a timed lapped. The path is rough and full of “obstacles” such as fallen trees that enabled both boys to imagine to explorers trying to get out of the jungle and back to the “good guys.”

By the end of the day the Defiants had become one of the new favorites in our house. The tracks and trucks have earned their place amongst the infamous tracks of the living room.

DaGeDar – The new super toy

Six years ago we were blessed with our first little boy and the idea of princesses, pink, and Barbies started to disappear.  When our second son arrived I tossed every concept of girly things out the window and have never looked back.  Truth be told I never wanted to have any girls. I wanted boys and all that comes with them; dirt, wrestling, sports, video games, and toys. So in my efforts as a boys mom I am always looking for opportunities to find exciting new toys or experiences.  Imagine my excitement when I was asked to review a brand new toy for boys before it had been release on the market!

DaGeDar (pronounced Da-Ge-Dar) is the new ultimate toy for boys.  This toy set is comprised of superchared balls, each with a different design, and side by side race tracks for the balls to zoom through in efforts or beating the other to the finish line.  In all honesty when the box arrived I actually estimated a playtime of about 20 minutes and my boys would be bored. In my opinion the concept of dueling racetracks seemed mundane and uninventive.  The supercharged balls did look neat and had potential but I seriously doubted that together the two would make any type of entertainment.  I was wrong, very wrong.

These toys have provided hours of REAL entertainment.  The old fashion kind of entertainment that requires imagination and batteries are not included.  These supercharged balls have not only raced down the race tracks but they have raced through dinosaur towns, Lego worlds and even have taken down the “evil bad guy” in efforts to save the world.  It is not only the imaginative play that grabs their attention.  The tracks are simple enough for a six year old to take apart and reassemble without the help of an adult and this allows for endless opportunities to create new tracks and new races.

A portion of our house is now dedicated to the DaGeDar Jump track, various power launchers, carrying cases and supercharged balls.  At all times during the day I can never be sure of when an alien ball will come zooming through the living room trying to win the race of the day.  Giggles always ensue….especially when I am the target.

My favorite aspect of the entire DaGeDar line are the balls.  There are over 200 varieties and they all are fun to look at.  The boys love that each of them have their own set and favorites so they don’t really have to share.  In addition, each ball has a trading card with a matching ball. My son was just introduced to the trading card phenomenon and is fascinated.  He is now determined to collect all the balls and their matching cards.

Each DaGeDar ball comes with a matching trading card

The balls also come with a carrying case.  Each carrying case can hold up to three balls and is easily attached to a belt loop.  However I am going to forewarn you right here, if the case is not strategically placed on a belt loop to the side it WILL look like something else…….

He is completely oblivious which is great!   I can’t help myself and take a million pictures to have a little laugh later!  Either way this product is wonderful

Now, this last weekend we were invited to celebrate the release of DaGeDar toys to the general public. We were hosted at K1 Speed Indoor Kart Racing and it was a great time even though I had my butt handed to me on the track AND I was yelled at by the racing gestapo for bumping into the walls too hard.  I was in the zone and I was really trying to keep up on the track!! Either way it was a wonderful opportunity.

These toys are huge hit in our family! They are not only fun but extremely affordable. I encourage everyone to give them a shot!

You see the darndest things and then take pictures of them

This past week in my shopping excursions I have happened on a lot of things that I thought were funny, interesting, odd, etc.  I thought I would take pictures of some of the items that caught my eye.

This is a wind chime that I found out our local Joann’s.  Wow, this is some artistic stuff.  Some supplier rummaged through their attic/garage/storage of old stuff and made this “amazing” wind chime…Oh wait! Don’t forget the handy work that can be seen in the beading towards the top…. Alright, I KNOW that there are some crafty bloggers that can make something like this and probably better but the best part is it won’t cost 24 bucks!  (P.S. See the cart…see the yarn…yup my cart)

Do you shop at a health food store or a place that prides itself on organics? I do. I frequent our local Sprouts store.  When shopping there, I typically make a b-line for all the produce and meats. I avoid the aislesof vitamins, enhancers, immunity, etc.  I have never ventured into that part of the store for fear of running into a Vegan hippy (every store has one on staff) that will try to sell me bottles of who knows what or someone that really knows what they are buying and I will look like an idiot.   Well, this time I avoided looking like an idiot (I was looking for Echinacea for kids …seriously..) UNTIL I saw this little box and stopped to take a picture.

Booby Tubes!!!  I think every mom should have a box in their house that says Booby Tubes!  Oh and you need to have that picture on it!

I thought this next picture and display was both offensive and spot on.

Ah….look a nice Valentines day display.  Pretty dishes, a Happy Baker Cookbook….WAIT A MINUTE…let’s focus in on that cookbook….

The Happy Baker : A Girl’s Guide to Emotional Baking!
At first, I was thinking that was rude and insulting. Valentines day is supposed to be romantic, sweet, filled with chocolate and heart shaped pizzas.  Then I had a vision of me seven years ago, baking cookies for my friends on Valentines day with my cat.  So, well done product placement people. Well done.  If I wasn’t on a diet I would have purchased that cookbook.
Anyone else see something good?

The beautiful Gingerbread house that never was….Oh and a winner!

The other day I invited some good friends to come over with their boys and decorate Gingerbread houses with us.  I had wonderful visions of Christmas carols playing in the background, fresh cookies coming out of the oven, the boys playing nicely, and all our Gingerbread houses looking like something from the store.

That isn’t exactly what happened.  They boys did play nicely and cookies were coming out of the oven but the mommies were more interested in “backin our thang up” to Dance Central on the Kinect and chatting!  When we did get down to the important business of decorating the houses I came to a startling revelation. I am not a huge fan and neither are my kids.  It is sticky, gooey, and never comes out looking like the picture….

This is my masterpiece…Do you like the satanic snowman?!
This is my good friends.  Hers actually looks like it is a little cottage from the Swiss Alps.
All of them together. Wow – We are good.

Hookin for fun and profit

I have been hookin again….  That’s right, I said hookin.  Would you like to see some results?

I am having way too much fun making these.
Here is what my three year old thought would be funny for the blog
Apparently Rex was having a hard day and needed a bink.  A bink that is actually a flash drive incognito.

Rainbow Rice

I don’t know what it is but summer really destroys any motivation I may have in the craft department.   I seem to get all my inspiration and motivation in the cooler months.

Today I broke my trend of nothingness.  I looked up a blog that has great kid craft ideas we made one.

The Pink and Green Mama always is up to something wonderful and I tapped into her artistic abilities today
Here are the results.
Step one- Plain rice.  We prepped it with a few drops of alcohol and waited till it was dry
End Result.  I’m sorry I forgot to take pictures of the steps in between.  I had four boys with baggies filled with rice and food coloring, my thoughts were preoccupied.
This was an extremely simple and fun activity for the kids.  They loved playing with the rice and the fact that they were allowed to help dye it made it that much better.
Drop by The Pink and Green Mama for the recipe and other awesome crafts.
