Green Thumb Thursday Link up

I have been lazy in the link up party lately because I have been swamped with orders from the store and I have been writing for MomRocks. So without further ado I bring back Green Thumb Thursday.

In the last few days I had the unexpected pleasure of finding some new blogs and seeing their amazing projects.

Art is Beauty rescued this door from the roadside and she made it into a lovely shabby chic door!  Love it

Over at Fox Hollow Cottage she showed her skills at her Thanksgiving table…. I am lucky if I remember utensils for everyone!

I love discovering new sites that are beautiful and give tips!

Now it is your turn….Do you have some talent, project, recipe etc to show off? Link up!

Thursday Link Up

Thursday has arrived and it is time for Green Thumb Thursday.

Here is my most recent super simple project for pumpkins.

How to make pumpkins have a little sparkle

I wanted my pumpkins to have a little sparkle this fall season so I decided to make them sparkle rather than buying any.  I bought these small pumpkins for 2 dollars and then Mod Podged them with the Gloss variety.  I then sprinkled them GENEROUSLY with the Michaels brand of Extra Fine Glitter.  (I couldn’t justify buying Martha Stewart’s 8 dollar bottles of glitter)  After they dried I shook off all the excess glitter and they were done.  Now I have three beautiful pumpkins that I am going to use as a centerpiece.

Now it is your turn. Do you have a project, recipe, or idea that you would like to share with others.  Go ahead and link up!

Green Thumb Thursday Link up

I know I missed Green Thumb Thursday last week but it was an incredibly busy week and if I remember correctly I was asleep both Wednesday and Thursday night by 8:45.

Today it is back.  Here is my DIY.

How to make a compost bin:

We left our magnificent compost bin at our old house so I have had to create a new one for our winter plants.

We went to walmart and spent 4.88 on a simple thick plastic trash can with a plastic lid.  I made sure that the lid clicked on tight and took it home.

I got the drill out and made holes through out for the compost to breath.

I am not sure if the coloring of the trash can will affect the compost.  I will find out in the coming months.

Your turn.  Link up any DIY projects you would like to share! Please no giveaways or links to other link parties!

Don’t forget the FRESCHETTA GIVEAWAY going on now!

Green Thumb Thursday Link Up!

Green Thumb Thursday is here and I can’t wait to see what everyone has been creating. Here is my contribution to the day:

Easy to make Fall Wreath

When I first started to make my own things instead of buying them one of the first items I wanted to learn to create a wreath.  A wreath that I could change with the seasons.  I was a newbie in the craft/decorating department so I would scoure blogs for help tips. Here is my step by step of making an affordable seasonal wreath.

First find a wreath that is easy to change.  I chose this one,  a twig wreath.  (I don’t know the real name)

How to make a Fall or Autumn Wreath

It was on the door with some Summer flowers but I failed horribly with the summer selection so it was pretty bare.

I wasn’t too proud of that one so I was anxious to start fresh. I hit Hobby Lobby and found an assortment of Fall leaves and they were all on sale! 50% off! I love Hobby Lobby something fierce.

Set with the accessories and a blank wreath, I went to work.

All done! I bought the wreath last year on sale for about 8 dollars and all my accessories were 9 dollars! Crafty on a budget!

Now it is your turn! Link up and share your projects….Everything that is homemade or organic! I love blog hopping! The only thing I ask is for you to grab the Green Thumb Thursday and advertise!

Welcome to the First GREEN THUMB THURSDAY!

Photobucket

Every Thursday I will have a post regarding becoming more green or homegrown.  This is an excellent opportunity for all of us to learn the tricks of the trade in making our lives a little more environmental and avoiding the mass market.

If you have a great tip, recipe, how to, craft,  upcycle concept, or idea that you would like to share please link up below.  Be sure to spread the word by grabbing the Green Thumb Thursday button and telling your readers to participate!  This can be great for everyone!

HERE are a few quick tips to get us off and running:

Tupperware Stains can be Bleached out by strong Sunlight. In the summer put your Tupperware in the garden and leave for several hours in the sun.

The best way to polish copper is to rub it with Ketchup and let it stand for an hour. Rinse off the ketchup with hot water and buff to a shine.

Grow…NOW…Seriously, I mean NOW!

I am a very demanding gardener.  I just planted my first seeds of the season in our new backyard (in my OLD pots) and I want them to start growing, yesterday.  I am used to extremely fast results in growth because of the awesome soil combo that I had in my old garden. Man, I miss that garden….

Anyways, although I know results in two weeks will not happen it doesn’t mean I’m not secretly wishing that one morning I will walk there and I suddenly will have plants!  And if my seeds don’t take off this year I have decided that I am going to blame the pots.  I have never had a garden in pots and I am a little leery.  So if it fails you will hear a lot of “Stupid Pots” remarks.

Here is what is happening now:

 New Seeds in old pots
The left orange pot has basil the wood thing has cilantro
Now for some pictures of dirt:
Yesterday I did invest in that blue container.  It will be my new compost.  I left my huge awesome one at the other house.  I was upset when leaving the house and I didn’t want to venture into the backyard for fear of getting too sad.  So I am starting over with a blue trash can and it will soon have holes for air.  The silver is my compost for the kitchen.
I also bought myself a little treat:
Pre-grown plants!
Tomato and Strawberries!
So this is the new stage of gardening for me.  Let’s hope it works and those stupid pots don’t screw it up!

A winner and a Big Melon

I just realized and never put a stop date on this giveaway thing….Anyways, I just random generated a winner and Jamie author of From My Kitchen To Yours, it’s time for you to take a break!  I know you need one because your blog is all about your great cooking! I will be sending you an email!!

In other news, I got my hands on a friends melons the other day…That’s right, HER melons and they were good.  Better than mine… I took pictures.

Another stellar picture – You know that is fresh when you can still see where it was connect to the vine.
mmm…This honeydew was good!  Mine was not anywhere as sweet OR big.  They were punny, tiny… I need to do better next year.
